I discovered my love for words at 10 when I was given a manual typewriter. However, I soon abandoned my word-loving ways for steady work in finance and earned a degree in accounting. Several years ago, I resumed my Word Nerd status as a freelance copy editor, proofreader, and writer of back-of-the-book and embedded indexes. I’ve completed many courses, including a specialized copyediting program at UCSD, and UC Berkeley’s Indexing Theory and Application.
I have judged the ACES Headline Contest and currently serve as the training course coordinator of the American Society of Indexers. I am also the treasurer for SD/PEN (San Diego Professional Editors Network) and a past elected Member at Large on the Editorial Freelancers Association’s Board of Governors.
Pendley’s Pro Editing & Indexing is a certified woman-owned small business.
